What's SUP? Stand Up Paddle Boarding on Lake Las Vegas

Last weekend, my friend Dennis and I started the St. Patrick's Day Holiday Weekend by celebrating the holiday and amazing weather by going out to the Westin in Lake Las Vegas to paddle board with Kathy at Paddle to the Core, www.SUPLV.com

St. Patrick's Day Weekend - March 2015
Doing out Beachbody on Demand #BOD out on the water.

I've been paddling with Paddle to the Core for five years - since they opened!!  In 2010, I first found out about Paddle to the Core through a SUP class at the REI in Henderson.  I dragged my dad along with me and we got our first lesson. It's been love ever since!

In 2013, I had thought about entering 2013 WPA-Hennessey’s World Paddle Championships hosted by Westin Lake Las Vegas, so I started going 2 or 3 times after work during the week, and at least once on the weekend. I ultimately decided not to enter the race, but I found an amazing workout and stress reliever.

Three of the five Monkey Boys (my nephews) have been out there with me countless times. When they hear I went without them, I get an earful and have to make promises to bring them the next time.  This year, it's time to introduce the 2 year old Monkey Boy to SUP. I can't wait!

This weekend needs to have SUP time.  I have a lot going on though...I'll just have to squeeze it in!! On Friday, I'm jumping off the Stratosphere SkyJump for Scoutreach (EEEEK!! more on that later). And then on Saturday, I'm helping out in the Nevada Beer Lovers tent at The Boulder City Beerfest

If you've ever wanted to try SUP, I highly recommend Kathy at Paddle to the Core. She and her staff are awesome! They are outstanding people and fantastic instructors! They make it easy and you'll be out paddling with the skills of a pro in no time!

Don't leave the Westin once you're done paddling! Turn it into a full day! Go enjoy the pool, the slide and the sun!  The Westin also has fire pits on the beach they light at night and you can buy s'more kits.

We made friends with other locals.

My headstand is getting better!

This was this Monkey Boy's first time in 2012. He loved it!

We came back with the oldest Monkey Boy for his first time
in 2013. Another avid paddler was made!

Fun on the water slide after paddling.

We almost always finish our day with fire pits and s'mores!
